Hiro Sakaguchi, Visiting Artist

Hiro Sakaguchi's lecture was Thursday, July 5, and we learned a whole heap about him, his work, and the cultural connections it draws upon. Some of you got to have Hiro in the studio (he's talking to Keith Gruber in the photo above), and here's where you can share your thoughts with the rest of us.

I feel obligated to write since I got to share the cover shot with Hiro on this post. I enjoyed Hiro's lecture and the dialogue I had with him afterward in my studio. One point that another student noted was how far back Hiro's slides went, he was showing us work from his high school days if I am not mistaking. This is not the norm among visiting artists (although Kiki V. showed some of her childhood work) I've got to say I enjoyed the trip back in time to get a sense of his artistic evolution. Also with the nature of some of his work and its connection to comic books, the look back seemed to be a relevant part of his lecture.
He stopped in a week later for Erin's opening, and I found out that he has some work currently on display which I hope to get out to see (somebody please remind me where, I can't seem to find it).
